Welcome to the 91¿ìÉ«!

Studying in a foreign country is as exciting as it is challenging - to help you prepare to leave for the UK and get yourself organised in the first few days here we have put together some useful information for you.

You’ll find everything you need to know and more about what happens in the first few weeks in our welcome guide!

How do I get to campus?

It’s easy to get to our campus from the three major airports that serve London. We recommend flying into Gatwick as it’s a very easy journey to both Luton and Bedford from there. However, Stanstead and Heathrow also have good transport links.

Luton

By Thameslink and Great Northern train

Take a Thameslink and Great Northern train from the North Terminal. Trains for Luton leave every 30 minutes. Get off at Luton (not at Luton Airport Parkway). The journey takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes and a single ticket costs up to 30 GBP (the price varies depending on what time of day you are travelling).

By bus/coach

Take a Jetlink Coach to Luton. A single ticket costs around 20 GBP.

What happens during my first few weeks?

Your first few weeks can be a busy time. Not only are you getting used to being in a different country, but you need to ensure that you complete all your registration and welcome tasks.

Here's a helpful list of things to do during your first weeks:

You may receive a lot of emails from us, but it is important to read them all very carefully and follow any instructions within them.

We will not contact you unnecessarily, so please treat all emails from an @beds.ac.uk email address as urgent.

Orientation is your chance to get to know the 91¿ìÉ«and meet the support teams that we have. It includes really important information on how to register, get your student ID card, how to access support and also information on how to ensure you follow all your visa conditions – do make sure you attend!

You will receive an email with details of your international orientation session about a week before your Orientation date.

Remember to also check BREO for details of your course induction!

Once you have sent evidence you have arrived in the UK, we will invite you to book an on campus Document Check.

Attendance is mandatory and if you fail to attend, you may be terminated from your course and have visa sponsorship withdrawn.

We will need to see your:

  • Original academic qualifications
  • English language qualifications
  • Current passport
  • Visa (vignette)
  • E-Visa share code

Registration is fully online. You will receive a series of emails advising you how to go about this once you have completed your Document Check.

Look out for emails from noreply@beds.ac.uk and/or donotreply@beds.ac.ukÌý

It is very important to open a UK bank account as soon as you arrive. Making payments from a UK bank account is both faster and cheaper, as you will not have to wait days or weeks for the funds to arrive and you will not incur bank charges for exchanging from one currency to another.

Before you travel to the UK it is vital to ensure that you have enough money to cover living expenses and fees. You should not expect that a part-time job will cover these costs.

You may get sick from time to time and may need to visit a Doctor. Please do this as soon as you arrive in the UK.

Do not wait until you get sick to register with a Doctor as you may not be able to get an appointment.

  • GP surgery for Luton students: is a local GP surgery for students at the Luton campus. It is a 5 minute walk from the 91¿ìÉ«Square building
  • GP surgery for Bedford students: is the dedicated GP practice for students at the Bedford campus
